Non-binary means something a little different to each person. To sum it up, non-binary is a word used to describe someone who doesn’t fully identify as a man or woman.
Think of non-binary as an umbrella term that encompasses the gender expressions that fall outside of the traditional gender binary.
It is a model that places people into one of two genders: man or woman.
All over the world, people are categorized into one gender upon birth. Intersex children have their bodies changed right away to fit into a gender binary recommended by a doctor. There is no option to pick something outside of boy or girl.
Non-binary, trans, and intersex people have always existed and will continue to exist. It is the systems in place that try to keep them invisible. We need to change that. Everyone deserves to live authentically without fear of judgment or harm.
